Clinical Psychologist

About Meryan
Welcome

Hi, I'm Meryan. I am a registered Clinical Psychologist working in private practice in Brisbane. I have a warm manner, practical approach and passion for my work. My aim is to help others feel better in themselves by providing the support to build self-compassion and resilience.

Making an appointment to see a psychologist can feel daunting for some. Let me give you a sense of how we might work together. I believe that some of the most important ingredients for recovery and growth are to feel heard, valued, connected and safe. My priority is to create a supportive environment for open discussion and reflection. Then comes the possibility to process unwanted emotions, understand experiences, alter relationships, grieve losses, build hope and plan for the future. We would work collaboratively throughout to find a way through the challenges you are facing.

Background and Approach

I have a breadth of experience in counselling, human services, education and research roles and my previous work as a psychologist has included hospital, community and private settings. I use evidence-based practice and often work ‘integratively’; this means that I tailor an approach that suits your needs using different frameworks. My key modalities include Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Family Systems Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). For those interested in understanding these better, I'm happy to discuss my approach during sessions so that you feel informed.

Education and Certifications
I have a Masters of Clinical Psychology and Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours Psychology) from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). My earlier university studies were in humanities, and included a Bachelor of Arts in politics and sociology from the University of Queensland, and Graduate Certificate in Arts (Australian Indigenous Studies) from the University of Melbourne.

I have registration as a Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA, which is the regulation body for psychologists and other health professionals. AHPRA registration ensures my practice meets high ethical standards.

Appointments

I see adults (individually or in couples) and adolescents for therapy. Rebates are available for clients on Mental Health Care Plans (current rebate $141.85) and those in certain private health insurance funds. I also see NDIS clients for therapy. Currently I take appointments Tuesdays to Thursdays, with some late afternoon appointments available. Please phone or email for information about fees and to make an appointment.
